Why might this particular vessel face greater or lower exposure?
We examine relevant characteristics, commercial relationships, recent operating history and other observable factors against the current targeting environment.
Pre-transit decision-support intelligence for a specific vessel and intended voyage.
Regional intelligence describes the wider operating environment. A Vessel Transit Risk Assessment applies that picture to a nominated vessel, commercial profile and proposed route.
Optarus combines open-source intelligence, vessel research, current maritime-security reporting and commercial-risk analysis to identify the factors most relevant to the proposed transit.
A regional risk picture does not affect every vessel in the same way.
Exposure may differ according to vessel characteristics, ownership and management relationships, recent trading activity, intended routing, prevailing targeting patterns, sanctions considerations, insurance conditions and changes in the wider maritime operating environment.
The Optarus Vessel Transit Risk Assessment is designed to help clients understand those differences before making their own operational decision.
We examine relevant characteristics, commercial relationships, recent operating history and other observable factors against the current targeting environment.
We assess the intended operating geography against recent incidents, hostile capability, areas of activity, maritime-security conditions and significant changes in the regional operating picture.
Where relevant and reliably available, we consider war-risk conditions, insurance developments, sanctions exposure, industry behaviour, vessel availability and other commercial constraints.
The assessment identifies relevant mitigating conditions as well as combinations of circumstances that could increase vulnerability.
We identify observable indicators that could materially increase or reduce exposure ahead of the intended voyage, including changes in targeting behaviour, hostile capability, operating geography, protective posture or commercial conditions.
We do not reduce complex maritime decisions to a simplistic generic score and we do not tell an operator whether a vessel should proceed.
Instead, we provide structured decision support so the client can apply the intelligence to its own risk appetite, voyage-planning process, operating procedures, contractual obligations, security arrangements, insurance considerations and internal decision thresholds.
Sanctions considerations, insurance developments and war-risk conditions are considered only as relevant exposure factors. The assessment does not provide sanctions clearance, a legal compliance determination, insurance advice or confirmation that cover applies.
The assessment also draws on the wider Optarus strategic-commercial picture, including relevant developments in shipping capacity, insurance, industry adaptations, alternative routes, defensive posture and regional infrastructure where those factors materially affect the nominated voyage.
The Vessel Transit Risk Assessment is a pre-transit analytical assessment based primarily on open-source and commercially accessible information available up to the stated intelligence cut-off.
Unless expressly agreed as a separate service, it does not include continuous AIS or vessel-position monitoring, live tracking, in-transit monitoring, direct communications with the vessel or Master, proprietary satellite surveillance, or dedicated HUMINT collection.
Maritime conditions can change rapidly. Material developments occurring after the stated intelligence cut-off may therefore alter the assessment.
The client receives a concise bespoke pre-transit analytical assessment focused on the nominated vessel and proposed transit. Its final structure is determined by the available intelligence and the client’s requirements rather than a rigid generic template.
Complex or multi-vessel requirements are quoted separately according to scope.
The £30/month Optarus subscription does not include bespoke Vessel Transit Risk Assessments. The subscription provides the wider regional and commercial operating picture through FA-72, Alerts, Assessment Updates and Insights.
Clear distinction: this commissioned service applies the wider intelligence picture to one nominated vessel and intended transit. Complimentary assessments are not advertised as a standard benefit.

An enquiry does not constitute automatic acceptance of a commission. Scope, timing and engagement terms must be agreed in writing.
Request the VTRA Terms of Service and Engagement · Draft under internal reviewDecision-support notice. Optarus Risk & Intelligence provides open-source analytical assessments for decision support. Each Vessel Transit Risk Assessment reflects information reasonably available up to the stated intelligence cut-off and is prepared for the nominated vessel and proposed transit described by the client.
Unless separately agreed, the service does not include continuous vessel tracking, AIS monitoring or in-transit monitoring, and the assessment is not automatically updated after issue.
The assessment does not constitute navigational instruction, legal advice, insurance advice or a recommendation to undertake, postpone or cancel a voyage. Maritime conditions may change rapidly, and operational decisions remain with the vessel owner, operator, Master and other responsible parties.
